FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Is it confidential?
    Yes, all our sessions are fully confidential and any data that I might collect from you is handled in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Data Protection Act.
  • Will Solution Focused Hypnotherapy work for me?
    Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can have very powerful impacts. It does not even matter if you are at all sceptical about the process, as I was personally to begin with: the most important factors to ensure the success of your therapy are your desire to get the results that you want to see and your commitment to prioritising your therapy and attending regular sessions.
  • What is hypnosis or trance?
    During the hypnosis or trance part of our sessions, you will make yourself comfortable and listen to my voice as I guide you into this natural, deeply relaxed state. It feels just like daydreaming, where you still have awareness and can easily absorb positive suggestions. We often go into a light trance or hypnosis many times a day when we are fully immersed in activities like walking, exercising, reading, cooking or watching TV. This state allows us to perform sometimes quite complex tasks, like driving for instance, on autopilot and come up with creative solutions. Whether you consciously listen or let your mind wander, your subconscious mind will take on any suggestions that are in line with your wishes and goals, while rejecting anything that does not align with your values.
  • Will I remember everything from the hypnosis or trance part of my sessions?
    You will remember most things, but not all, but this is how our memory normally works. For instance, if you listen to a speech, you might not remember every single thing that has been said, but you will recall the majority of it and specifically what is most important to you. This is the same with hypnosis.
  • Are there any dangers?
    No, you will simply have that relaxed yet focused feeling that you get after doing some yoga, going for a run or having a massage. If you need to become fully alert during the trance part of our sessions, you will be able to do this automatically, just like snapping yourself out of a daydream. After your sessions, you will feel relaxed, energised and focused.
  • As a hypnotherapist, will you control my mind during the trance part of our sessions?
    There is a common myth surrounding hypnosis that suggests it involves mind control, but this is not correct. During hypnosis or trance, you will maintain awareness and cannot lose control of your mind, nor can you be controlled against your will. The idea of acting embarrassingly stems from stage hypnosis and fiction, where participants willingly engage in playful suggestions. Unlike entertainment hypnosis, Clinical Hypnotherapy is grounded in decades of research by renowned psychologists and is focused on therapeutic benefits.
  • Will my online therapy sessions have the same effect as appointments in person?
    Yes, you will achieve the same results whether you prefer to have your sessions in person or online. All you need is a quiet space where you will not be interrupted, with a comfortable chair or sofa, and maybe a blanket if it is cold, as well as a reasonably good internet connection. Some people may feel more relaxed and comfortable in their own home or office, while others prefer a different setting and book to see me in person for their sessions.
  • How many sessions will I need?
    Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can have powerful impacts quickly and many people start to see and feel the benefits even after their first session. Some clients find that as few as 4-6 sessions can have a real positive impact for them, while others may require 8-12 sessions or more. People make progress at their own pace, and you will be the one who decides how many sessions you are willing to commit to and when you feel that you have made the progress that you want to see happen. Listening to your free Relaxation MP3 on a regular basis, particularly before going to sleep at night, will really support the work we do and may mean that you require fewer sessions.
