How Solution Focused Hypnotherapy works
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a calm, practical and forward-focused approach that combines solution-focused talking therapy with guided relaxation.
It helps you understand how your brain and body respond to stress, anxiety and overwhelm, so the way you have been feeling can start to make more sense.
Rather than spending sessions dwelling on the past, we focus on where you are now, how you would like things to be different, and the small steps that can help you begin building calmer, more helpful patterns.
You are the expert in your own life, even if it might not always feel like that.
I work with teens and adults in Chippenham, at Wadswick Green Wellness Spa near Corsham, and online.

Not sure where to start?
Many people are not sure what hypnotherapy involves before they begin.
That is exactly why the free intro call is there.
It gives you a chance to ask questions, briefly explain what you would like help with, and see whether this feels like the right next step for you, without any pressure to book further sessions.
Why Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can help
Stress and anxiety are not just thoughts.
They can become familiar responses in our mind and body.
You might know logically that you are safe, capable, or tired enough to sleep, but your body can still react as though it needs to stay on alert.
That is why simply telling yourself to “stop worrying” or “calm down” often does not work.
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy combines practical, solution-focused conversation with guided relaxation.
The conversation part helps you focus on what is already working, what you would like more of, and the small signs of progress that can be easy to miss when stress levels are high.
The guided relaxation part gives your mind time to slow down and rehearse calmer, more helpful responses.
Over time, this can help you move away from threat mode and towards clearer thinking, steadier reactions and a greater sense of control.

Understand the pattern
Stress can keep your brain and body on alert, even when part of you knows you are safe.

Practise calm
Sessions help you focus on your positives, your resources and the calmer responses you want to build.

Feel the difference
The aim is for change to show up in everyday life: better sleep, clearer thinking, steadier reactions and more confidence.

A forward-focused approach
When stress and anxiety take over, your brain can become very good at scanning for problems, replaying worries and preparing for worst-case scenarios.
This is not because you are weak or broken.
It is because your brain is trying to protect you.
With Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, we do not need to spend sessions unpicking everything that has gone wrong in the past. We can talk about anything you need or want to mention, but the focus is on where you are now, what you would like to be different, and how you can begin moving towards that.
We cannot change what has already happened, and we cannot always control everything happening around us now. But we can influence how we respond, how we recover, and the next steps we take.
Sessions are calm, supportive and focused on your positives, your resources and your ability to create change.
The aim is to help everyday life start to feel more manageable, calmer and more enjoyable again.
Your first step

Free intro call
If you are unsure whether hypnotherapy is right for you, you can book a free intro call.
This is a relaxed 15-minute call where you can ask questions, briefly explain what you would like support with, and get a feel for whether working together feels right.

Initial consultation
The initial consultation is your first full appointment.
During this session, we complete a health background and fact-finding questionnaire together. We talk through what has brought you to hypnotherapy, what has started to feel difficult, and what changes you would like to make.
I will explain how our brain responds to stress and anxiety, and how this can affect your thoughts, feelings, sleep, confidence and body.
Many people find this reassuring because the way they have been feeling starts to make more sense.
You will also receive a relaxation MP3 to support our work between sessions.
What happens in each session?
Notice what has been better
Each session is calm, structured and supportive.
We usually begin by noticing what has been better, even in small ways.
This helps your brain start to recognise progress, resources and possibilities that can be harder to see when stress levels are high.

Explore what you want more of
We then explore how you would like things to feel, what would be different in your everyday life, and what small, realistic steps may help you move towards that.
Your sessions are focused on your positives, so there is no need to revisit painful experiences in detail or unpick old problems if that would feel uncomfortable.
We use where you are now as the starting point from which you can move forward.
Each session ends with guided relaxation, often called trance.
You make yourself comfortable and listen to my voice as I guide you into a calm, focused state. This can feel like daydreaming, or becoming absorbed in a book, film, journey or activity.
You remain awake, aware and in control throughout.
The purpose is to support relaxation, focus and helpful change, using your brain’s natural ability to build new, more helpful pathways.

Common questions before starting
It is normal to have questions before beginning hypnotherapy, especially if you are not sure what to expect.
This section explains a few of the things many people wonder about: what happens in the brain when stress builds, what hypnosis feels like, and how many sessions you may need.
Understanding your brain under stress
A key part of our work together is helping you understand what happens in your brain and body when stress builds. When the brain perceives a threat, it can activate your fight, flight or freeze response. This can affect your thoughts, emotions, sleep, confidence, digestion, body tension and ability to think clearly. Many people find this explanation reassuring because it helps them realise that what they are experiencing makes sense. Once you understand the pattern, it becomes easier to start working with it. Our brain is able to change and learn new responses through neuroplasticity. In simple terms, the more often we practise calmer, more helpful patterns, the easier it can become for the brain to access them again.
What does hypnosis feel like?
Hypnosis in a clinical setting is not mind control, and it is not stage hypnosis. It is a natural, relaxed and focused state. Most people describe it as pleasant and calming. You may hear every word, drift in and out, or simply feel deeply relaxed. Many of us experience similar states naturally during everyday life, such as when we are absorbed in a book, watching a film, walking, exercising, cooking or even driving a familiar route. You remain awake, aware and in control throughout. The suggestions used in sessions are aligned with your wishes, goals and values.
How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions varies from person to person and depends on what you would like support with. Some people notice changes quickly, while others benefit from more time and consistency. Progress is not always a straight line. You might have a good week, then a difficult day, and wonder if you have gone backwards. Often, though, small changes are signs that something important is beginning to shift. We will discuss what may be best for you during your initial consultation and review your progress as we work together.
